MINUTES OF NCPAC BOARD MEETING MAY 29, 2008

MID PINES RESORT & GOLF COURSE

SOUTHERN PINES, NORTH CAROLINA

Present: Doug Winner, Ben Atkins, Mike Sanders, Curtis West, Floyd Wicker, Lauriette W. West-Hoff, Oscar Davis- Conference Chair, Jim Postma (Chair- Legislative Committee by phone)

The May meeting was held at the Mid Pines Inn & Golf Club in Southern Pines, North Carolina for the purpose of reviewing the facilities and food services. The meeting was followed by a tour of the Inn, Villa and Conference Center.

Conference Planning:

Oscar Davis made his report concerning the plans for the September 11-13 conference plans. The major concern was how we get maximum numbers of appraisers attending the conference and how we reach all of the appraisers in the state.  After considerable discussion on the most effective way to market and reach all of the appraisers, the following tasks were enumerated:

1.    Phone Tree- committee of 100 are to be contacted and requested to contact all of the appraisers in their county, encouraging them to attend the conference. Conversations with other appraisers appear to be the most effect way to get maximum participation.

2.    All members are to be sent an email, encouraging them to register for the conference. Benefits of attendance will be stressed.

3.    Flyers for the conference are to be designed by Oscar Davis and mailed to ever appraiser in the state. Carl is to send cost of purchasing the digital list of Appraisers from the NCBA. Curtis will convert this to Excel to print the labels for this mailing.

4.    A challenge to the local chapters and counties where there are no local chapters is to be issued. Prizes will be given to the Chapter and/or county that has the highest number of registrants for the conference.

Costs of Conference and CE:

Since the conference is the major fund raising source of operational funds for the organization, the board felt that dues should continue to be included in the conference cost to encourage membership. $60 is the cost of annual membership, and new members get an additional benefit of 4 months (from the date of the conference until the end of this year) if they join and attend the conference in September as well as their 2009 dues being included in the conference registration fee. The cost of the CE is substantially less than attending classes offered by the various schools and is one of the benefits of membership. In the past, inquires were made for cost of attendance of the CE rather than the purchase of the package. The package is the best deal but appraisers need to have a choice and the breakdown is as follows:

1.    The total package cost of the conference including 2009 dues and CE is $260.

2.    CE alone $200   Seven hours of CE “Appraisers Role in Combating Mortgage Fraud” (pending NCAB approval).

3.    Conference only $200 no CE and no 2009 dues.

Conference Speakers:

The CE will be held on Thursday and the conference will begin on Friday with the Banquet Friday Night.

  1. Oscar has contacted Scott Haywood – Memory Specialist Consultant to speak at the conference. This course is designed Improve one’s memory. Oscar was authorized to negotiate the fee.
  2. Senate Bill proposed by Senator Dole related to Appraisers is an issue that will be discussed at the conference. Jim Postma agreed to contact Senator Doles Office to determine if she could be the Banquet speaker, Friday night and address the issues surrounding her proposed bill as well as the issues related tot the HVCC.
  3. An Alternative Guest suggested is Senator Price.

The Committee of 100 needs to make the nomination for officers and board members by June 10, 2008 so that the candidates may be posted on the website and listed in the next issue of THE SCOPE.

Problems still exist with registering for the conference on their web site. All board members are encouraged to call reservations and indicate whether they prefer the Inn or Villa Rooms. Make sure that the NCPAC name is mentioned and that you register for Mid Pines, not Pine Needles. (800-747-7272). The number posted on their website for reservations is (800) 290-2334.

Lunch was served in the Dinning Room at the Inn and then a tour of the rooms in the Inn and at one of the Villas was conducted.

The meeting adjourned.

Respectfully submitted
